1. The sanity for religion, Kumbh Mela:
As far as the public gatherings are concerned, Kumbh Mela organized in 2011 has crossed all world records with the largest number of a gathering of over 75 million pilgrims. This photograph from the space satellite is the evidence.
2. Bandra Worli Sealink’s steel wires equal the earth’s circumference:
This is an architectural miracle as it took 2,57,00,000 man hours for completion and weighs equal to 50,000 African elephants. A true engineering marvel, isn’t it?
3. Floating Post Office:
There is a floating post office in the Dal Lake of Srinagar. It was inaugurated in August 2011.
4. Wettest inhabited a place in the world:
The Mawsynram village is situated on Khasi Hills, Meghalaya known to receive the highest recorded rainfall in the world.
5. Highest Cricket Ground:
With an altitude of 2,444 meters the Chail Cricket Ground in Chail, Himachal Pradesh, is the highest in the world. It was built in 1893 and is a part of the Chail Military School.
6. Shampooing is an Indian Concept:
The concept of using herbs for the cleansing of hair was invented in India. The word “Shampoo” itself is derived from Sanskrit word “champu”, which mean to massage.
7. Kabaddi world Cup:
Our favorite Cricket team has under performed when we compare it with Indian Kabaddi team. You might be surprised to know that our Kabaddi team is undefeated throughout the tournaments and has won all the world cups held till date, including the women Kabaddi team.
8. Water on the moon was discovered by India:
In September 2009, India’s ISRO Chandrayaan- 1 satellite using the Moon Mineralogy Mapper detected water on the moon for the first time.
9. Switzerland’s Science Day is dedicated to Ex-Indian President, APJ Abdul Kalam:
It is worth a mention that some other country has honored our Ex-president in such a gracious way and declared 26th May as Science Day.
10. First President of India took only 50% of his salary:
Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first president of independent India and he only took 50% of his salary. That’s not all, by the end of his 12-year tenure; he only took 25% of his salary.
