Iran releases 9 Indian sailors from jail

In over past two months Indian politics drastically failed to produce any positive outcome. Well, finally some positive news came from with a tweet of External Affair Minister Sushma Swaraj, which informed that 9 Indians who were jailed in Iran on charges of Oil Smuggling have been released. The free Indian also includes Sushil Arora who resided in Delhi.

External Affair Minister Sushma Swaraj extended thanks to Iran and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif for the decision. The 9 sailors were prisoner in Tehran jail for two years, were suspected as Oil Smugglers, while they were sailing on International waters as part of shipping crew.

The issue of releasing the 9 Indian sailors was raised by Sushma Swaraj on 14th August 2015, during Javad Zarif’s India visit. She has highlighted the plight of Nine Indians, also demanded for a waiver of USD 2.9 million imposed as a fine on the sailors.
