91 LS seats in India go on polls; #VotingRound1 and “How to remove vote ink” trend

The Indian General Elections of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections have begun today with voting for the first of seven phases. As part of the general election, voting is being held in 91 Lok Sabha seats in 20 states and Union territories.

The states of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Uttarakhand, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Telangana are voting today in the first phase. Voting is also being held in parts of Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

Meanwhile, Google shows a peculiar trend since morning i.e.- “How to remove vote ink” among Indian search trends. Poll conducting state, Andhra Pradesh has most of the search statics. On the other hand,#VotingRound1 is among the top trends on Twitter. People across poll conducting states are posting their selfie with the inked finger and using the hashtag.

Leader’s take on Indian elections onset

There are a total of 14.21 crore electors in phase 1, of which 7.22 crore are male and 8.99 crores are female. A total of 1,279 candidates are in the fray in the first phase of the general election.
