Cracking The Whip: Aadhaar-Based Attendance System For Railway Staff By January 31

Latecomers will have a tough time at the Railway Station. The Railway authorities have installed the Aadhar-based biometric attendance system across all its zones and divisions. The new attendance systems will be implemented by January 31, 2017.

A notification letter dated November 3 issued zone-vide by the Railways Department announced the department’s intention to implement the new system. As per the letter, the new system will be implemented in the offices of all divisions, production units, zones, Metro Rail Kolkata, factories, and railways workshop. Implementation process at these places will be processed on the priority basis and is anticipated to be completed by November 30.

This step has been taken in the light of increasing absence of officials not coming or coming late to office. The installation of biometric attendance systems will eliminate this issue and mitigate the problem of persistent absenteeism.

Officials added that the implementation of this system will ensure discipline and also help in maintaining the decorum of the department.

According to a senior rail official, this plan will put a check on those arriving late or not be coming at all to the office. “The plan is to put a check on the officials arriving late or not coming to work at all.”

The second phase of system implementation will take place in the offices of Railways, including public undertakings, attached and subordinate offices. The second phase will commence by January 31, 2018.

The system will be monitored by the divisional railway manager’s office to ensure that the process is streamlined and hassle-free.
