Come December 1 and you will be freed from the need to visit the telecom store for linking your Aadhar number to your SIM card. In a bid to ensure customer-convenience, the telecom operators have built a digital model of linking Aadhar with the mobile number.

This is an OTP-based Aadhar linking mechanism which will be operational from December 1. The new mechanism has been introduced by the telecom companies.

How to get your Aadhar linked with mobile SIM?

Here are 7 steps which will help the company in completing the process of linking your SIM to Aadhar number.

Follow these simple steps and your Aadhar will be linked to SIM in no time.

  1. All the subscriber needs to do is send their Aadhar number from their registered mobile number. The number on which the message is to be sent will soon be updated by UIDAI.
  2. After the message is received, your operator, let’s say Aircel will conduct a demographic verification.
  3. UIDAI will then receive an OTP request from the telecom operator.
  4. On the request of the telecom operator, UIDAI will send OTP to the respective mobile number.
  5. The user will send the OTP to the concerned registered mobile number. The e-KYC verification process is complete

Update Mobile details on Aadhar website

Once linked and you change your mobile number. You can still update your mobile number on the UIDAI website for services.

  1. Visit official UIDAI website
  2. Select the self-service portal under the ‘Update Aadhaar’ section
  3. Just punch your Aadhar number and an OTP will be generated in the existing number.
  4. As soon as OTP is verified, you will have access to changing personal details.
  5. Make necessary changes and click on “Submit” button.

The government has mandated February 6, 2018, for linking Aadhaar with mobile SIM. So get your Aadhar linked as soon as possible for continued services.

However, there is a major ongoing argument regarding the validity of this step. The need for linking mobile numbers to SIM cards is being questioned. It is a drastic and revolutionary step in the Indian history when citizen’s personal mobile numbers will be linked to a government introduced identity tool.
