Ajay Devgn’s mystery thriller Drishyam 2 has crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark in its first week of release, grossing Rs. 104.66 crore at the time of writing. According to trade website Box Office India, the film only dropped 10% on weekdays compared to the opening weekend.

The film is doing well in Mumbai and Gujarat, and it may become the highest grossing film in the region after Sooryavanshi. Drishyam 2 is aiming for another Rs. 50 crore or more in net box office collections in its second week, according to Box Office India. Drishyam 2 should be the second Ajay Devgn film to cross the Rs. 50 crore mark in week two, following Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior.

The last few weeks have not been kind to Bollywood at the box office. Even the festival season, topped by the Diwali weekend, could not light up the box office for Hindi cinema, which saw a nearly 50% drop in business when compared to pre-covid years. Two big films, Ram Setu and Thank God, did poorly at the box office, grossing just over Rs. 100 crore combined. Previously, it was common for two major films to gross at least Rs. 200 crore during a festival weekend.

On Diwali 2019, the ensemble comedy Housefull 4 earned Rs. 205.60 crore at the box office, helped by the release of smaller films such as Saand Ki Aankh and Made in China.

Thugs of Hindostan, a period drama released around Diwali in 2018, earned Rs. 48.27 crore on its first day. In comparison, Ram Setu and Thank God opened to Rs. 15 crore and Rs. 7.50 crore, respectively, this year. Thugs of Hindostan, on the other hand, had slowed down later.
