Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Yyoti Yojana

The greatest power is the power that you don’t have to produce. India being one of the highly developing country is facing some of the basic lacks of essential requirements especially in the rural areas. There is an entire range of challenging areas in the power segment that India needs to tackle on priority. Keeping in mind such difficulties and problems the country and its people are facing, the government of India under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana scheme named in honour of the famous Indian political philosopher Deen Dayal Upadhyaya in 2015.The scheme is designed with a motive to provide continuous power supply to each village in the nation.

The scheme was launched as one of the key initiatives of the Modi Government. On the launch of the scheme, PM Modi promised electrifying all the villages of the country by 2018. This new scheme and initiative of the centr government will replace the existing Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana.  Under this scheme (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana), the government plans to invest $ 11 billion for the successful and continuous power supply in the rural areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on the Independence Day that “the government had decided to electrify 18,452 unelectrified villages within 1000 days, i.e. by May 1, 2018.”

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Yyoti Yojana

Government of India launched Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana for electrifying rural areas keeping in mind the following objectives:

  1. To provide electrification to all the villages in the country.
  2. Feeder separation to make sure sufficient power supply to farmers and regular supply to other customers.
  3. Development and enhancement of sub-transmission and distribution system to upgrade the quality and consistency of the supply.
  4. Metering to lessen the losses.

The power ministry of India has also launched a mobile application where people can see how many villages have already been electrified and how many are left to be electrified in the time left.

The power ministry recently said in a statement, “253 villages were electrified across the country during February 8-14, 2016 under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna. Out of the 253 villages, 111 are in Odisha, 81 in Assam, 40 in Jharkhand, 13 in Rajasthan, 4 in Bihar, 3 in Madhya Pradesh and 1 in Uttar Pradesh.”

The residents of the country only hope to have continuous and adequate supply of electricity to their homes as promised by the government for better future.
