The tragic Amarnath attack is a nightmare for all pilgrims desirous of traveling of the holy place. The indecorous terror attack killed 7 pilgrims, 5 of them being women.

In the wake up of this nuisance, Home Minister Rajnath Singh called a high-level meeting on Tuesday to take stock of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and chalk out possible ways to prevent such instances in the past. The meeting was attended by the intelligence agencies and central paramilitary forces. To get full updates on the incident, Home Minister telephoned J&K Chief Minister Mehboob Mufti and Governor N.N. Vohra.

What is the Amarnath Attack?

A group of militants opened fire at a bullet-proof police bunker at a location in Botengoo village in the Anantnag district. After facing massive retaliation from the police, the militants moved to another police station in Khannabal.

Sequentially, a pilgrimage-bound bus was attacked. There were five Gujaratis and 2 Maharashtrians traveling in the bus, which had surpassed the curfew zone prescribed for the Amarnath pilgrims. The bus tyre was punctured which is why the trip got delayed beyond 7 pm, after which the security measures get withdrawn.

The government is also investigating the reasons why the bus was allowed to trespass the curfew zone.  On inspection, it was found that the bus was not registered with Amarnath Shrine Board, the Central Reserve Police Force informed.

Government’s Action Plan

If reports are to be believed, a team from the home ministry is being sent to visit Jammu and Kashmir. The team’s trip objective is to calculate the risk and suggest all measures to beef up security for the pilgrims traveling to the cave shrine located in Anantnag district.

Not only has Jammu and Kashmir been declared as ‘bandh’ by various community parties, the J&K government has also suspended the internet services in the terror-stricken state.

The Gujarat government has announced an ex-gratia of of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of those killed in terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims. A sum of Rs 2 lakh has been declared for the injured pilgrims.
