One of the most pious yatra of the country, the Amarnath Yatra has been suspended by the authorities from the Jammu base camp. Amarnath yatra suspended after the recent killing of the Burhan Wani, the top Hizbul Mujahideen Commander and his two associates. They were all killed in an encounter on Friday with the security forces. The actions have been taken due to the tensions in the valley and apprehensions of law and order problems in the Kashmir valley.

“No yatri was allowed to move from Bhagawati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu city towards the valley due to prevailing tension following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani .The situation will be reviewed later. Till then the Amarnath Yatra shall remain suspended,”  a senior police official told IANS in Jammu

“The Amarnath yatra has been suspended from Jammu base camp. No fresh pilgrims will be allowed to proceed towards the Valley today,” a police official said. Thousands of Amarnath pilgrimages were stranded as soon as the orders from the state government were received after the death of Wani. More than on lakh pilgrims have visited the Amarnath Cave for darshan and the yatra concludes on August 17 as per the guidelines.
