Amnesty row was not enough, 3 Karnataka students arrested for pro Pakistan slogans

Three students hailing from Tumkur’s Sri Siddhartha Institute of Technology in Karnataka have been arrested for raising slogans which were absolutely Pro Pakistani. It is not surprising to know that this incident took place just two days after the Amnesty row which is still continuing on another raging level. It so happened when Bengaluru Police seized Amnesty International on strong sedition charges and some students from Kashmir for raising freedom slogans at Human Rights Body event.

Sri Siddhartha Institute of Technology is owned and run by Dr G Parameshwara who is also the Home Minister of state of Karnataka.

The three students who got booked for their Pakistan-supportive slogans are Mohit Singh, Danish Ahmed and Praveen Kumar. These three of them got into a fight during birthday celebrations of Mohit Singh.  The fight and its arguments caught such fierceness that Danish and Praveen started burning clothes and books in the hostel premises. Witnessing such unacceptable behavior, the security guard of the hostel filed a complaint by informing the police about the student squabble.

As more heated the arguments got, Praveen Kumar allegedly started shouting slogans like “Pakistan Zindabad”. Though when police began with their interrogations, all three students denied the fact that any pro Pakistani slogan was raised by them and instead they focused on defending themselves by saying that the slogan was actually “Pakistan Murdabad”. They insisted that both ‘Zindabad’ and ‘Murdabad’ are homosonic words and people might have heard wrong.

Kartik Reddy, the Superintendent of police in Tumkur region of Karnataka, said “All three students where in an inebriated condition and reacted this way under the influence of alcohol. It was Praveen Kumar, whose father works in the Indian army, who allegedly raised the pro-Pakistan slogan.”

Dr G Parameshwara, Karnataka’s Home Minister stated that, “I have sought an enquiry into the matter and if anyone is found guilty, strict action will be taken against him.”
