Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a health infrastructure mission for Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat on Monday. It aims to address three significant gaps in India’s public health sector. Establishment of an integrated public health institute for diagnosing diseases and expansion of existing research institutes to study pandemics.

What is the mission of Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat’s health infrastructure?

This is the largest plan across India since 2005 for the construction and improvement of long-term public health infrastructure. It is intended to be implemented in all districts of the country. The government will spend Rs 64,180 on plans for Fiscal Year 2021-22 to Fiscal Year 2025-26. What is the first element of the mission?
The first factor is to establish comprehensive monitoring of infectious diseases.

At the district level, integrated public health laboratories will be established in all 730 districts. At the state level, there are 5 regional branches and 20 metropolitan units of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention. And at the national level, an integrated health information platform (IHIP) will be established. What is the second element of the mission?

The second component is the creation of a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment facility. At the district level, 17,788 new regional health and wellness centers will be established. 11024 new city health and wellness centers are established. Intensive care unit blocks are located in each of the 602 districts with a population of over 50,000 rupees.

At the state level, 15 health emergency operations centers will be set up. At the national level, two container-based mobile hospitals will be established. The Intensive Care Hospital Block has been established in 12 governments of Indian hospitals and also serves as a mentoring institution for training and development. What is the third element of the mission?
The third element of the mission is a comprehensive pandemic study. At the district level, 80 existing virus diagnostics and laboratories will be enhanced. At the state level, 15 new Level III biosafety laboratories will be launched.

At the national level, four new regional national virology laboratories will be operated and a regional (digital) research platform for the WHO Southeast Asian region will also be established.
