In the ball tempering scandal, Australian batsman David Warner stepped down as captain of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. This news has spoiled not only his reputation but also shaken international cricket to the core. This news is confirmed by official twitter handle of Sunrisers Hyderabad. The news came ahead of IPL 2018.


Who will be the new captain of the franchise?
After this controversy, Warner will be replaced. The name is not mentioned as of now. It is likely that Shikhar Dhawan will take up the captaincy. Shikhar had captained the franchise during 2014.

During the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town, this scandal broke out. There are three Australian involved in this controversy- Australian skipper Steve Smith, David Warner and opener Cameron Bancroft. This incident made the three players to go back home country Australia.

In 2016, David Warner led Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL crown. He had played a leading role for the franchise. For this season of IPL 2018, he was retained by the IPL franchise for Rs 12.5 crores. For Hyderabad Sunrisers alone, David Warner has scored 2579 runs across four editions. Warner’s stepping down comes two days after his Australian captain Steve Smith stepping down as captain of Rajasthan Royals.
