Basant Panchmi 2018; Know the significance and Muhurat

In the month of January, the festival of Basant Panchami falls. According to Hindu Mythology, Basant Panchmi is observed on the fifth day of the Indian traditional calendar month of Magha. This year, the festival falls on January 22. On this day, the people worship Goddess Saraswati.

Why is celebrated?
It is a popular Hindu festival which is marked as arrival of Spring. This also considered as time of harvest and end of winters. She is the goddess of knowledge, language, music and arts. This day is also considered as the birthday of Goddess Saraswati and many Saraswati pujas are on this day. As Goddess Saraswati imparts knowledge so artists and students pray to her for seeking her blessings.

How is Basant Panchmi celebrated?
Yellow colour holds great significance on this day. People eat yellow food items and sweets and adorn clothes of yellow colour. On this occasion, many educational institutes and colleges organize cultural events.

The muhurat for Basant Panchami is from 7:17am on 22 January and continues for 5 hours and 15 minutes till 12:32pm.
