The evergreen actor, Vidya Balan is in headlines for her upcoming film release. The much awaited ‘Begum Jaan’ is all set to be released on April 14. A movie which has an extraordinary cast — a confluence of strong and bold characters like Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Gauhar Khan, Ridhima Tiwari, Pallavi Sharda, Ila Arun, Rajit Kapoor, Pitobash, Nassar, Ashish Vidyarthi, Chunky Pandey etc.

Period of Partition 1947
A slew of films have portrayed the era of partition of 1947. Having said this, there is not a single film which depicts the repercussions of partition on life of an Aam Aadmi. This film portrays the real difficulties and circumstances which were created during the partition and what people had to face.
Remake of bengali film Rajkahini
Begum Jaan is the Hindi remake of a 2015 national-award winning Bengali film: Rajkahini. The original film starred Rituparna Sengupta in the lead. It even won several awards at various international film festivals. The film marks the debut of the director of Rajkahini, Srijit Mukherji, in Hindi cinema.
On being asked how she feels about the movie, Balan exclaimed, “I am glad that Srijit (director) decided to come back to me. It is feminine power in full glory. You see the charm, the sensuality, the compassion, but you also see the wrath of an angry woman. I think it is also giving vent to a lot of my angst.”
