- Randeep Hooda in Sarabjit
The movie may not be a part of the multi-millionaire club but Sarabjit definitely strikes a chord in our hearts with his exceptional performances. The sentiments, dialogues and expressions put up by Randeep make our eyes water as we see Sarabjit undergoing torture at the hands of our neighbours while imprisoned in a jail.
The actor didn’t just work on his diction, but also lost up to 18 kg by starving himself for 28 days. From a stylish ‘Jaat munda’ to a helpless prisoner with unkempt looks, we saw a drastic change in Randeep’s appearance. Kudos to his dedication.
- Manoj Bajpayee in Aligarh
Though we’ve seen Manoj play Bhiku Mahatre in Satya and Sardar Khan in Gangs of Wasseypur, we believe Bajpayee gave his finest performance in Aligarh. A gay professor from AMU (Aligarh Muslim University) who fights for his rightful place in a conservative society appears sensitive, sublime and poignant in his role.
- Shahid Kapoor in Udta Punjab
Jab We Met, Kaminey, Haider and now Udta Punjab. Shahid Kapoor seems to amaze us with his vivid performances every time. Most actors don’t look convincing in serious roles, but this is not the case with Shahid. His helplessness, confusion, anger and penchant for drugs leaves us in an emotional state as we watch his struggle against addiction on the silver screen.
- Sushant Singh Rajput in MS Dhoni: An Untold Story
Sushant was by far the most brilliant actor of this year in Dhoni’s biopic. This budding actor had invested so many efforts to put himself in veteran cricket actor’s role that he literally stalked MSD for several days to behave like him. Needless to say, his efforts showed colours and he nailed it with his unbeatable performance. We’ve no words to express the simplicity, emotion and spirit portrayed by him on screen.
- Akshay Kumar in Rustom
A decked up, smart Naval officer charged with killing his wife’s lover. Akshay Kumar as Rustom Pavri, brings K.M. Nanavati back to life. He kept his performance understated, choosing silence over words. Nevertheless, we saw him play the Commander to perfection– as a loyal officer at work, a caring husband, a cuckolded husband and a man defending himself in court.
So, these were epic performances by Bollywood stalwarts this year. We hope to see similar performances in future.
