Last Person in the Line should be Served First: Bhairon Ji’s philosophy gets Special Mention by Raje

Held as a high-profile remembrance event, the Pink City Jaipur hosted an event in remembrance of the late veteran Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. On the 7th anniversary of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat who continues to be a revered personality in the Indian politics until date.

The first of its kind Bhairon Singh Shekhawat Life Time Achievement Award in Public Service was conferred upon Shri Pawan Kumar Chamling, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim on May 15 at the B.M. Birla Auditorium, Jaipur.

The event was graced by Hon’ble President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee who delivered a memorial lecture on the occasion.

The guests of honour at the event were Shri Kalyan Singh, Hon’ble Governor of Rajasthan, Shri V.P Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab, Smt. Vasundhara Raje, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Shri Ashok Gehlot, Hon’ble Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Other dignitaries were also in attendance at the event.

The event started with lamp lightning ceremony followed by speech delivery by dignitaries present at the event. “Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s schemes elevated the pains of the general poor and were aimed at eradicating poverty and inequality,” said Hon’ble Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje at the event.

“I am fortunate to have received Bhairon ji’s blessings and the opportunity to imbibe political learnings from him,” Vasundhara Raje added.

Here are the few highlights from the speech which elucidate Bhairon ji’s principles and philosophy.

  • Bhairon ji never belittled any person, regardless of his wealth bracket. Infact, the veteran leader always rendered full support to the last man in the line.
  • “No foes, only friends” : This is what Bhairon ji believed in.
  •  “The last person in the corner should be the first person we should serve”
  • Bhairon ji started the ‘Antyodaya’ scheme and ‘Wheat for Work-barter system’. These schemes contributed greatly towards plummeting the pains of poor and underprivileged.

Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was the 11th Vice-President of India. Shekhawat was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a leading member of the National Democratic Alliance at the time of election. He served as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan three times, from 1977 to 1980, 1990 to 1992 and 1993 to 1998.
