Rajasthan is on the path of development under the leadership of Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje. Every step she is taking is bringing a change in the life of the poor. She is focused to join hands with the society and collectively move towards a brighter future of Rajasthan. For this purpose, BHAMASHAH scheme was initiated by the Raje Government in the year 2007 and was revamped, reactivated and launched on the 68th Independence Day in India in 2014. The intent was to introduce technology in Government schemes along with the main motive of women empowerment in the state of Rajasthan.

With the next step in this direction, Rajasthan Government has moved towards the online transfer of Government aids and grants to the holders of Umbrella aka BHAMASHAH card. From September 1, ration delivery under the Public Distribution Systems will go online and the circulation will be made through Biometric fingerprint scan. Umbrella Card is created by the authorities using the Aadhar Card database and the beneficiaries under the scheme will not only get ration from Government but will also receive many other direct and non-direct aids like Pension, health insurance benefits including all the cash benefits under public welfare schemes to the female heads of the rural families after their biometric fingerprint test. This Umbrella Card will also be helpful for the people to get connected with various other Government schemes. The card uses the Aadhar database and transfers pension, wheat under the Food Security Act, various scholarships and even the MNERGA wages directly to the poor, eliminating middlemen and their corruptive practices.

For this purpose, the BHAMASHAH camps are being organized by Government authorities in every tehsil headquarters from the month of August. The people are free to come and register their information in those camps. Also, they can highlight their problems. The records say that out of the total population of the state of approximately 6 crores, the scheme has already registered the database of nearly 4.5 crore citizens of Rajasthan. As per a Government spokesperson, “This is a face of Digital India of which Rajasthan is a part. If there are any drawbacks, we are working towards overcoming them.”

The BHAMASHAH scheme uses the photographs and fingerprints of the beneficiary for identification. BHAMASHAH card holder will be able to obtain services at different service points like bank branches, ATMs, e-mitra kiosk. Additionally integrated service delivery shall be ensured at Rajasthan Sampark IT Centers right up to Panchayat level and Municipal areas.

It is one of a kind scheme which has taken Rajasthan ahead of many other states in terms of Digital India Campaign. It is the need of the hour that the Government schemes and its progress projects also goes through a digital makeover so that it could reach to a large number of people. Raje Government and people of Rajasthan are very positive about this scheme. It is a welfare oriented government program through which rural people, especially women will not have to suffer the laid back attitude, for which the Government officials are known. They will receive the direct benefit of the Government schemes through bank transfers. Vasundhara Raje and her Government is moving in the direction of transforming Rajasthan where everyone leads a prosperous life and sustainable development being equally catered over the urban and rural sectors of the state.
