21 years old Bhumika Sharma crossed all hurdles in her path and became the first Indian woman to win Mis s World at the World Bodybuilding Championship in Venice.

Originally from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, Bhumika Sharma now lives in New Delhi. She is the first and the only woman so far both at the national and international levels from the state to have made her mark in bodybuilding,

Although she belongs to a sporting family—her mother Hansa Manral Sharma (head coach of the Indian women’s weightlifting team), it was difficult for her to convince her parents to let her take up bodybuilding as she was the only child in the family.

Her journey was full of highs and lows. However, she successfully managed to fulfill all the obstacles in her way.  Her sincerity and dedication paved the way towards her success. She proved wrong to all who think women cannot get into body building.

Until three years ago, Bhumika was interested in shooting and that was what her parents wanted her to pursue. But a chance meeting with her with a bodybuilding coach piqued her interest in the sport. Although her parents were initially hesitant they supported her and gave her way seeing so much passion in her.

She competed against 50 women from various parts of the world. Now, without even taking the time to celebrate her success, she is focused on her next goal— winning the Miss Universe Championship to be held in December 2017.  Even her mother gives her tips from time to time.
