July 23 marks a special date for India as it is the birth anniversary of two freedom fighters who had given their lives for the sake of nation. These two revolutionaries are Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Chandra Shekhar Azad. Indians owe this freedom to these great sons as without their unflinching dedication and determination, India would have not been freed. These courageous leaders are great role models. Both Tilak and Azad represent picture of true youth icon. On this great day, India pays tribute to these martyrs of India’s independence.
I bow to Lokmanya Tilak on his Jayanti. He ignited the spark of patriotism among countless Indians. He successfully mobilised people from all sections of society and deepened the connect between our citizens and India’s glorious past. Lokmanya Tilak also emphasised on education.

We should remember Chandrashekhar Azad for his immense courage and dedication to the freedom of India. However, we also need to recall his revolutionary ideals. He hardly wrote anything being a man of action but he remained committed to the revolutionary objectives of HRA/HSRA

Know more about Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Chandra Shekhar Azad
Tilak was born in Ratnagiri in Maharashtra on July 23, 1856. Bal Gangadhar Tilak had played a great role in awakening Indian masses for independence for the country through his writings, speeches and actions. He had worked to unite India and fight for the nation. His slogan “Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it” has been imprinted in the annals of history. Various social issues like dowry and girl child marriage of girls were highly criticized by Tilak and he fought against them. He was also one of the trio- Lal Bal Pal. He was a strong advocate of swadeshi products.
Chandra Shekhar Azad was born on July 23, 1906 in Bhavra village (present-day Alirajpur district in Madhya Pradesh). His life was devoted for the country. Country’s freedom was his only motto. When Azad was teenager, he jumped into the freedom struggle. Fearless since childhood, he unhesitatingly called himself “Azad”, his father “Swatantra” and that his address was jail. This all happened when he was arrested at the age of 15 years and presented before magistrate. He had a core value system which he followed till the end of his life.
