Sambit Patra said that the permission was asked in writing to the Ministry of External Affairs so that the ceremonial lounge at the Indira Gandhi International Airport could be used for giving him a ceremonial see off in the presence of the Ambassador and other diplomats of that country.

He further added that Ministry of External Affairs did not respond to it. He questioned this by saying that why should the Chinese Ambassador see off an Indian politician. There is no such protocol. He called it a serious matter and wanted answer from Congress. He said that why such kind of demand made from the Chinese envoy. He also wanted to know the Chinese connection behind this see-off demand.
