Blame game on Gurgaon Traffic Jam has begun

On Thursday, National Highway 8 which is aligned to the millennium city Gurugram, witnessed a mammoth like traffic jam. The entire stretch across Gurugram which was supposed to move with subtle speed, got the worst halt of the decade. Hundreds of automobiles got stuck and for a moment each one of them must have cursed the moment when they decidedto travel through this particular route that fateful day.

Once knowing about havoc like traffic jam, the entire media world got busy in flooding their feeds with this flood related situation and once that got over, politics, seeing the chance of spreading its wings over this big issue, came sweeping in. apparently, both the authorities of Delhi and Haryana are defending themselves and thus the blame game began.

Now whose fault is it that the drainage system is extremely erroneous?

Chief Minister of Haryana, M.L Khattar attacked Chief Minister of Delhi ArwindKejriwal through a tweet. It said that the former is “frustrated by” latter’s “non-cooperation”. This particular attack was also made to reach Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, and to this he did a counter tweet saying, “Merely renaming Gurgaon as Gurugram does not mean development. You need plans and execution for development. Jumlon se Jam NahinKhulega.”

To investigate into the matter of this ineffective drainage system, teams of both the involved states went ahead and brought forth some outputs. On one hand,Gurugram team blamed Delhi’s Najafgargh drain’s choked condition while on the other hand Delhi team raised finger on Gurugram’s temporary and ill–equipped roads.

A senior official from the Gurgaon administration said, “We found that water was stagnated. For many decades, water from the Badshahpur drain has been falling into the Najafgarh drain. But because the Najafgarh drain was choked and not de-silted, the Badshahpur drain started overflowing. We even dropped pieces of paper to check but the drain was so clogged that the papers did not move.As for the Kakrola barrage, of the 11 gates that should be open, only two were opened in June, five early in July and later nine. So the barrage was under-performing by 20 per cent”

To add more to Gurugram’sdefence, T L SatyaPrakash, the Gurgaon municipal commissioner, said “Gurgaon is at a natural disadvantage compared to its neighbouring areas. It is low-lying while Chattarpur and Mehrauli in Delhi are on a higher slope. So where do we feed the excess water that flows down from Delhi?”

Whereas, Delhi official V.K Jain gave out statements saying, “Whoever is saying that the Najafgarh drain is clogged is making false statements. We took photographs and conducted an inspection today. The Badshahpur drain, too, is getting cemented and water has been diverted to kuchha drains which is insufficient for a rainfall like this,”

What we understand so far is that, the public won’t care enough about the main culprit behind this suffocating traffic jam they all suffered from. Because for them only thing which matters the most is that such an issue should not repeat itself in the future, and whosoever does this for them will be their ultimate hero.
