Centre to introduce Bill to ban Triple Talaq in winter session

The discussion to introduce a bill to end triple talaq is going on from long. The Central government is planning to introduce the Bill in the upcoming winter session of Parliament. The decision to bring this bill comes in Supreme Court’s judgment of August 22. Here, the SC utters the practice of talaq-e-biddat among Muslim husbands totally unconstitutional.

This decision to bring this practice of Triple Talaq to end is appreciated by Muslim women. They said that they have been left destitute by husbands divorcing them through triple talaq. The practice of triple talaq is considered to be unacceptable said judges as it violates their right to equality. Even the court reported that many cases of Triple talaq have been noticed after august. There are also cases where Muslim men divorced their wives through WhatsApp and short message services.

The practice of triple talaq has been banned by many Muslim countries including Pakistan and conservative Saudi Arabia also.

What is Triple Talaq?
Also known as talaq-e-biddat, Triple Talaq is a form of Islamic divorce which has been used by Muslims in India. It allows any Muslim man to legally divorce his wife by stating the word talaq three times in oral, written, or more recently electronic form.
