Chief Minister Raje calls for a Russia-Rajasthan twinning

INNOPROM 2016: Rajasthan showcased to the World

The stage was set, curtains were rolled and the entire world looked on as Rajasthan’s committed Chief Minister addressed an august gathering comprising of stalwarts and captains of several industries across the globe. On Monday morning, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje addressed the Russia-India Business Forum on the subject ‘Russia-India: New Industrialization & Industrial Corporation’ at INNOPROM 2016 being organized in Yekaterinburg.

INNOPROM 2016 is a comprehensive exhibition and fair of the latest in technology that unites the world’s economic giants. Russia’s main industrial trade fair, Innoprom held in Yekaterinburg is broke yet another record this year. With participants from more than 95 countries the 7th annual industrial fair was host to 150 business events for more than 600 companies around the world. According to Anton Atrashkin, the head of Innoprom Business Program, a unique format of the fair allows to know everything about Russia’s industrial policy within 4 days.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje was one of the few global leaders who addressed the gathering at the Russia-India forum. She emphasized on how efficiency and productivity are on the rise and the perspective of what is ‘achievable’ is changing everyday. She said, “In a ‘flat world’, new industrialization is what will drive growth and make lives better – everywhere. These developments pose challenges to both governments and businesses. For corporates, major challenge is how to make new technology cost effective and scale-able. For governments, challenge is how to use emerging frontiers of science to make governance systems more effective without increasing the size of government. Today, a citizen in Rajasthan is empowered to ask questions from authorities without being physically present. He is a part of governance structure that is agile. He is part of a ‘conversation’.”

The Chief Minister of Rajathan highlighted the friendly relationship between India and Russia – “Our two countries have had a relationship of mutual trust and respect. Together, we have worked to the goal of world peace. The erstwhile USSR and today’s Russia have always been friends. Our ties are already deep in the areas of trade, nuclear power, defence collaboration, science and technology, space and culture. The next step for us is to grab the opportunities offered by an ever changing world and it is now time for both countries to expand their relationship and leverage new industrialization. Our bilateral trade, currently pegged at USD 10 Billion can easily double in the next decade. Manufacturing, software, ESDM, new age materials, Ceramics, Automobiles and Renewable Energy are fruits that hang low.”

Raje also invited the investment community to come and set up their businesses in Rajasthan. She said, “In my understanding, India-Russia co-operation, both G2G and certainly B2B, should look beyond traditional areas and focus on creation of livelihoods along with goods and services. India’s farm sector is now all set to enter a new dimension in terms of productivity and variety. The requirement for Agri-Logistics, Warehousing and Cold-Chains and Food Processing is only going to rise. In November this year, we shall be hosting the first ever Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet (GRAM) which aims at presenting the finest of technology and techniques to our farming communities. We already have a new Agri-Business Policy in place and I invite you to go through it and consider being present in Jaipur during GRAM.”

Raje ended her speech by light-lining how small is beautiful and small is also effective. She said, “The potential of Medium and Small Enterprises to create employment, sustained growth and weather global economic uncertainty is proven. Entrepreneurship is a talent that finds its way, even during the most severe storm. Our governments must work together to create a base of strong independent entrepreneurs who specialise in goods and services that compliment large industry. We, both at the centre and in the state, have policies that cater to the requirement of StartUps. With suitable support, right from the ideation to the implementation phases, we believe technology StartUps are the best horses to bet on. Jaipur is also already home to many Tech StartUps and we certainly have room for more.”

Subtely, Chief Minister of Rajasthan invited Russian defense giants to invest in Rajathan as it is already home to many test centers. “The hot desert of Rajasthan is a testing ground for many advanced materials produced by Russian industry. Does it not make sense to fabricate those items in Rajasthan itself?”, she said.
