Two years in a row, boys enrolled in government schools fared better than girl students. Shocking but true! We’re talking about RBSE class X board exams. Rajasthan government schools have produced better results, compared to last few years. While the average result of private schools is 82.49%, public schools are not far behind. The average board results of government school stood at 75.69% — a commendable leap for BPL families.

Coming over to individual performances, last year, the girls scored 75.70% in class X exams. However, this year, the score upped to 78.89%: little, but much welcomed change. Boys, on the other hand, performed better than their counterparts, scoring 79.01% on an average. The number was much better than the previous academic session (2015-2016) wherein guys scored 75.70%.

Talking about class X Rajasthan boards, the overall result increased by 3.07%, landing at 78.96% this time. In the previous session, the average % was 75.96%. Patting his officers’ backs for this outstanding achievement, Rajasthan education minister Vasudev Devnani congratulated all government school students for their performance.

Merging sparsely populated schools, revamping old and decapitated buildings and introducing new, ‘smart’ provisions for education helped transform Rajasthan government school results. Realizing the benefits of smart classrooms in overall development of their child, more parents sent their wards to school. As a result, the huge gap in passing percentage between girls and boys narrowed down to a marginal amount.

In 2016, 10, 51, 105 students passed class X board examinations whereas this year 10, 72, 799 students passed their exams with flying colors. Out of these, the number of students that got first division was 3, 14, 249. Education minister Devnani claimed that the performance of government schools have considerably improved as compared to last year. The status of education has improved in remote villages.

Last year, many students failed in Hindi and Mathematics. It was a worrying number therefore the government arranged better teachers for Hindi, English, Mathematics and Science. This had a positive impact on class X results this year. In a bid to relieve existing burden on the students, the RBSE removed the concept of merit list from their system.

The idea is to develop healthy competition among students, without pressurizing them to score 90s and 100s. Hopefully this will divert more students to the field of education.
