A cleanliness survey was lately conducted in the country under which 75 A1 and 332 A category stations across 16 zonal railways were covered. According to the survey, Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara (the top cities of Gujarat) are among the top 10 cleanest railway stations in the country. No doubt Modi left the state in a great condition and the Anandi Ben Patel has been able to manage it the same way. Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh was the third among the top cleanest railway station followed by Solapur and Mumbai Central in Maharashtra, Chandigarh, Bhubaneshwar (Odisha). These railway stations were chosen from the 75 A1 category railway stations.

The stations which ranked in the top 10 cleanest railway stations from the A category were Beas (Punjab), Jamnagar and Gandhidham (Gujarat), Vasco-Da-Gama (Goa), Kumbakonam (Tamil Nadu) and the stations which were among the least cleanest railway stations were Nasik Road (Maharashtra). Shahganj, Ballia and Janghai (Uttar Pradesh), Madhubani and Bakhtiyarpur (Bihar) and Raichur (Karnataka).

On this, the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said, “The idea is to make the entire rail network clean. This is just the beginning of a process which will actually and eventually bring all stations on par with a particular standard.”

The survey was conducted on 40 parameters and the passengers were asked to rate the sanitation and cleanliness of the railway stations. The passenger’s feedback was then combined with the feedback from the railway staff in a draft and a final report was prepared which was lately released by the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. An official said required changes would be soon performed in order to improve the conditions of the railway stations.

As the Indian Railways launched ‘Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ to accomplish the vision of ‘Clean India’ by 2019, we really hope to see more cleaner and sanitized versions of the Indian Railway Stations.
