On the 10th day of Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia, Indian Boxer Mary Kom has finally opened her account by winning Gold in women’s 45-48 kg category today. This can be called another new achievement in her career book. This legendary female Indian boxer beat Northern Ireland’s Kristina O’Hara in the finals.
MC Mary Kom already holds an Olympic bronze from London 2012 and five amateur world championship titles. This gold medal in Commonwealth Games is a new addition. Mary Kom, the five-time world champion, won this battle with 30-27, 30-27, 29-28, 30-27, 20-27. It is India’s 18th Gold in CWG 2018.
Four years back, it was disappointment for the nation that she could not clear even for the events. She had lost to Pinki Jangra during trials. At India Open boxing championship that held few months back, Mary Kom won against Filipino Josie Gabuco in 48kg class among women. This victory was the proof of her preparations for the upcoming challenges.

This 35-year old Boxer is mother of three. Mary Kom hails from Kom tribe in Manipur. Kom has married to her lover footballer Karung Onkholer. On her life, Bollywood has made biopic film Mary Kom in 2014. The role of Mary Kom was played by Priyanka Chopra. She has also been nicknamed as “Magnificent Mary. She has been honoured with many awards and accolades including Padma Bhushan, Arjuna Award and Padma Shri.
