Communal Clash between Shiv Sena and Muslim group in Phagwara

The situation in the Phagwara district of Maharashtra became tensed during a communal protest between the Shiv Sena workers and a Muslim group who were carrying out a protest. The incident happened on Friday when the police have to interrupt to control the situation so that it doesn’t convert into a big fight. However, no casualties were reported as the police managed to control the crowd within time.

Late in the evening, Phagwara police registered a case against the Shiv Sena leaders which includes Inderjit Karwal and six others. The sources revealed that the Shiv Sena workers were protesting due to the recent disruption in the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, they were targeting the local Muslims for the disturbance and were chanting anti-Pakistan slogans. They also wrote ‘Pakistan Murdabad” on the wall of a shop owned by a Muslim on Thursday evening.

Hence, the Muslims were protesting against the attitude and provocation of Shiv Sena. Their march was under the leadership of Uvais-ur- Rehman, the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid of Phagwara. The leader of the Shiv Sena workers in the protest was their state vice-president Inderjit Karwal. After coming face to face, both the groups started arguments which led to the pelting of stones at each other. SHO Aman Devesher suffered minor injuries while controlling the situation.

The SP Ajinder Singh and DSP Harkanwalpreet Chahal had rushed to the spot with the police force and managed to control the situation. Later, DIG (Jalandhar range), Kapurthala, SSP Rajinder Singh and Deputy Commissioner Jaskiran Singh visited the spot of tension. Heavy police force was deployed at Phagwara to avoid any unwanted incident.
