COVID-19 vaccine distribution to start with 56.5 lakh doses, 4 airlines and 14 cities

In front of the primary period of the Covid-19 immunization drive planned to begin from 16 January, vaccine transportation has begun from Pune to 13 areas the nation over, Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday.

In a series of tweets, the Minister said 56.5 lakh doses of vaccines are being shipped to Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh, from Pune.

“Civil aviation sector launches one more groundbreaking mission. Vaccine movement begins. Initial two flights worked by SpiceJet and GoAir from Pune to Delhi and Chennai have taken off,” he tweeted.

“Today Air India, SpiceJet, GoAir and IndiGo will work nine departures from Pune with 56.5 lakh dosages to Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh,” Puri added.

The transfer for Mumbai will be passing by road, as indicated by PTI. Trucks having a place with Kool-ex Cold Chain Ltd are being utilized to ship the vaccine stocks. The trucks conveyed 478 boxes of the immunizations and each container weighs 32 kg.

The primary flight conveying Covishield vaccine, has just arrived at Delhi, Gujarat, Chennai and Kolkata.

Serum Institute of India (SII) has gotten a buy request from the Government of India for 11 million portions of Covishield antibody, which would be accessible at the cost of ₹200 per portion, SII authorities had said on Monday.

“This is a historical moment that vaccine is being dispatched from our processing plant. Our main challenge is to make it accessible to everybody in the nation. It is our test for 2021, let us perceive how it occurs,” Adar Poonawalla, CEO, Serum Institute of India told ANI in a meeting.

“We have given a unique cost of ₹200 for the initial 100 million dosages just to the Government of India on their solicitation, since we need to help everyday person, powerless, poor and medical care laborers. From that point onward, we will sell it at ₹1,000 in private business sectors,” he said.

PM Narendra Modi had before said around 3 crore medical care laborers and forefront laborers will be inoculated in the principal period of immunization. “In the subsequent stage, those over 50 years and those under 50 years with co-horrible conditions will be vaccinated,” he added.
