Yet another incident of police thrashing civilian went viral on social media platforms, consecutively second on the side of Mumbai Police. In this fresh incident, this happened in Andheri Police Station of Mumbai. The video leaked with Indian media, framed nearly eight police personals getting bullied over a young couple.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) has been asked to investigate the matter to look if there is any misbehavior on the part of police and summit report to Zonal Deputy Commissioner, following the orders an inquiry has been instigate video of a couple being “thrashed” inside Mumbai’s Andheri police station  late Tuesday night.

The 1 minute, 53 second video, shot by a “police informer”, allegedly shows nearly eight officers, a few of them women, surrounding and stabbing a young couple inside Andheri police station. The girl is heard apologizing and appealing officers to let her go home.

However, police personal speaking to media said the girl (24), a Nallasopara resident, and the Byculla-based boy aged 25 — both work in a call centre — were under the influence of alcohol and creating ruckus outside the police station.

A senior police officer said “Initially, we got the impression that the boy was trying to molest the girl. However, we later found that it was a fight between the two of them. They had consumed alcohol at some place in Malad and were so disoriented that they did not know why they got off at Andheri when none of them resided there.”

A police officer also claimed that boy was holding girl and they both were not letting go each other, for which police had to deploy physical force, so that both can be separated. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vinayak Deshmukh said “It was at that point the officers may have crossed the line. However, I have asked the ACP to look into the matter and carry out detailed investigation, along with complete report in a day or two.”

Deshmukh further added that “After the parents came to the police station and requested us to not take action against the two, we allowed them to go early morning.”

The informer who has shot the video of the incidence inside Andheri Police Station, runs a NGO, did not agreed on the story narrated by the officials and said it was the officers who has slapped the girl first. He said “The girl then got scared and called out her male friend shouting ‘save me’. On this the boy stepped ahead and pulled her towards him, which was forcibly separated and applied force.”

Prior to this incident, in September, three lady cops had allegedly assaulted a devotee outside Ganpati Pandal near Lalbaugh. As a outcome two of three officers were suspended.
