Notice Issued For DUSU Poll Candidates

The Delhi High Court issued show cause notices to candidates of various parties contesting the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections on Tuesday   Any printed material are not allowed to use for the election campaign. Hence, the parties can be seen flooding Twitter and Facebook timelines with appeals to turn out in large numbers for voting.

Delhi University in the previous elections had also introduced the option of NOTA which was preferred by many students.

Tough Competition

Many think this year’s election would see a tough contest between NSUI and ABVP. But The Left-wing AISA is also hoping for a higher vote share due to its sustained campaign against violence on campus after the February 21 Ramjas incident.

In fact, ABVP saw a sustained campaign against it by NSUI and AISA on the issue of violence. The Right-wing party is, however, confident of making a clean sweep for the fifth time as it believes its strength and “campaign for better facilities for students” would work.

NSUI, on the other hand, was caught in a row after its presidential candidate, Rocky Tuseed, was disqualified by DU’s election committee. It had then fielded Alka Shehrawat. However, a court decision brought Tuseed back in the race, forcing Sehrawat to go alone as an Independent. ABVP thinks this would act in its favour.
