Eid-ul-Fitr, will now be celebrated on Saturday across India except Kerala. It is happened so as the moon was not sighted on Thursday. This announcement was made by Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari after meeting with moon-sighting committee. In Kerala, it is celebrated on Friday as moon was sighted in Kozhikode district, around 370 kms from the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

A senior official of mosque cited PTI, “The moon was not sighted today. So, that means the Eid will be celebrated on Saturday in Delhi and several other parts of the country.”

Celebrations and rituals of Eid-ul-Fit
Eid-ul-Fit is the celebration to mark the culmination of the fasting during holy month of Ramzan. It falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal. Islamic prophet Muhammad had started the celebration of Eid. Eid is the symbol of peace, brotherhood and communal amity. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fit, feasts are being organized. The fasting is forbidden on the day of Eid. The blessings of divinity are sought by offering prayers at mosques and idgahs. People celebrate this auspicious day by dressing up in their traditional fineries. Making donations and charity on this day are considered to be good.
