Meet Adam Ostaszewski—a passionate cyclist from New York who’s currently on a trip to India, to generate awareness on benefits of using a cycle. This 35-year old rider is on a quest to promote environment conservation in India—a Herculean task for some, but not Adam. The cyclist started his journey from San Francisco where he boarded a flight to Bangalore. Since then, he has traveled to Goa, Gokarna, Nasik, Pune, Mumbai, Junnar and finally landed in Jaipur, on his cycle.

Adam couldn’t resist the charms of Pink city. He initially planned to stay here for just two days, butended up extending his stay for three days here. In this period, he traveled to Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and City Palace. He was fascinated by the beauty and historic heritage of Rajasthan’s royal capital and enjoyed his stay here.

Adam couldn't help but stop by at Jaipur to explore rich cultural jewels here.

A Man Who Has Visited Over 40 Countries in the World, Feels India Doesn’t Have Good Infrastructure for Cycling…

Cycle tour wasn’t a hobby for Adam initially. The cyclist experienced this adventure for the first time in his life. He borrowed the idea from tourists in South America who undertook long-distance trips on cycles. Being a fan of environment and wildlife, he found it totally awesome. Cycle tourism is eco-friendly, sustainable and leaves no carbon footprints hence, clearly better than other modes of travel. He wanted to explore South East Asian countries, especially India so, couldn’t miss this opportunity for the world!

Indian roads are full of potholes and many areas lack proper bicycle lanes. Government needs to put in severe efforts to promote cycling in India.

Upon his arrival, he was taken aback by dense traffic and pollution existing in the country. He was determined to inspire Indians to take up cycling—an idea, which Adam believes can solve environment deterioration in the country. Food is the second most important factor behind this initiative. A hardcore foodie by nature, Adam has been gorging on Indian delicacies all throughout his trip.

He feels that the government needs to put in severe efforts to promote cycling in India. Indian roads are full of potholes and many areas lack proper bicycle lanes. Even if the people wish to ride cycles, the footfall and automobile traffic on roads would drive them insane. Through his trip, he intends to divert public attention to the benefits of cycling—a cost-effective activity that ensures that the rides stay fit! He’s hopeful that government will come up with more ideas to promote cycle tourism in future.

Till date, Adam has traveled around 1,100 kilometers in India. He stopped by Pune to ride a train and attended a 10-day meditation camp at Nashik. He wants to explore more of north India on his bike. Next, he’ll participate in Global Himalayan Expedition so he can participate in bringing solar-power to remote Himalayan villages in Ladakh.

We wish Adam good luck and sincerely hope that Indian roads turn more hospitable for cyclists on his next trip!
