Christmas is just around the corner and Facebook has revamped its Messenger app design to accommodate camera-friendly activities for the festive season. Besides adding text-based artwork and 3D masks like SnapChat, we’ll get to see Facebook Messenger group video chat on the new updated version of this app. To make video conferencing more convenient, Facebook will include a split-screen feature so that six users can participate in this group chat. While only six of the participants will be able to see one another, around 50 users can listen to them and communicate via texts, voice chat, emojis, GIFs and stickers.

According to Facebook employees, only 6 people will be able to join in the split-screen video conversation, but only they’ll be able to see one another. However, the dominant speaker will be visible to all other participants (up to 50 in number). To start a group video chat, the dominant speaker needs to initiate a group conversation with selected participants. All the participating members can access the video chat button by tapping on the video icon present on the top-right corner of the screen.

While participating in the group chat, each member will have a little thumbnail to their profile that will be available on the screen. You can switch your messenger screens to gallery format.

This feature is free on Wi-Fi connections. If you’re using 3G or 4G connections, standard data charges will be applicable to it.

The new group chat feature is available worldwide for Android, iOS and web browsers starting from today. Android and desktop users may have to wait for MSQRD-powered selfie masks because developers will take some time to launch this option.

This is the best Christmas gift that Facebook has given us so fat. Considering that Christmas is just around the corner, it’ll be easier for students and professionals to get in touch with their friends and family. What’s more? You can add festive colours to your messenger posts because Facebook has added a splash of joyful colours to their social media platform.

This brand new feature will hopefully make Facebook more popular than its competitors that is, WhatsApp, Booyah and WeChat.
