Fodder Scam: Akhilesh accuses BJP for doing injustice to Lalu Yadav

To support jailed RJD leader Lalu Yadav, former UP CM and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said that injustice is done to him by the BJP. This statement came in response to the questions asked by the reporters about the Bihar leader’s sentence.

The national general-secretary of Samajwadi Party, Ramashankar Vidyarthi accused that BJP of trapping Lalu Prasad for not joining their bandwagon. He also asked the opposition to unite and defeat the BJP.

The verdict on fodder scam had come out in Saturday in which former chief minister of Bihar was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in jail. He was also fined Rs 10 lakh by a special CBI court in Ranchi. The CBI special judge had acquitted former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra and five others in the case. Lalu Yadav was found guilty of diverting Rs. 89.27 lakh from the Deoghar treasury 21 years ago.

What is Fodder Scam?
Fodder scam is a collective term for a set of 64 cases. In 1985, CAG T.N. Chaturvedi sniffed out a possible embezzlement of funds from the Bihar Treasury and various departments. In 1996, the Patna High Court had ordered an inquiry into the fodder scam cases. A charge sheet was filed in the Deoghar treasury case. Since then the investigation is going on this case and verdict was awaited. In fact, Lalu faces charges on another three fodder scam cases.
