Former Finance Minister shifted on life support as per AIIMS sources, condition said to be stable for now

As per officials, Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on August 9, has been shifted to life support on Saturday.

The former finance minister has been put on ECMO (Extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation), which is also known as extra-corporeal life support. This is an extra-corporeal technique of providing prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to persons whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of gas exchange or perfusion to sustain life.

He was visited by Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, BSP supremo Mayawati and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in AIIMS. Other ministers who paid a visit to wish him fast recovery included Union minister Piyush Goyal, and Congress leaders Abhishek Singhvi.

Ms. Mayawati tweeted after her visit, “Went to AIIMS to enquire about the health condition of BJP veteran and former defense and finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Met his family members to comfort them and prayed for his early recover.”

President Ram Nath Kovind and Home Minister Amit Shah visited Mr. Jaitley on Friday. BJP’s Satish Upadhyay, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, and Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa also arrived at AIIMS to ask about his health. Dr. Vardhan, “Doctors at AIIMS are doing the best they can.”

Earlier than all these mentioned ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and other top Bharatiya Janata Party leaders visited the hospital to ask about his condition.

Mr. Jaitley was admitted here with complaints of uneasiness, weakness,

and breathlessness and has been undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) at AIIMS since August 9.
