Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE is an all India examination that is conducted by the Indian Institute of science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), and Government of India. It is an exam taken for post graduation that is program in Master degrees such as Master of Engineering, Master of technology, and Doctor of Philosophy.
For the year 2016, the registrations for the GATE have begun since September 1, 2015 and the exam is expected to held between January 30 and February 7, 2016. The exam mainly understands the comprehensive ability of a person in domains like, Engineering, Technology and Architecture. All the candidates who are willing to appear in the exam need to submit their applications online. The application in printed form or other than online will not be accepted.

There are some new features that are added in this year’s GATE exam:
- An online virtual calculator will be available to examinees at the time of examination. No physical calculator will be allowed. The online virtual calculator will be put on GATE 2016 website for practice before the examination.
- After completion of GATE 2016 examination, all answer keys will be made available for dispute within a short time. Every answer key can be challenged. A nominal fee will be levied to prevent frivolous challenges.
- A new paper Petroleum Engineering (PE) is introduced in GATE 2016. With this, the total number of papers is 23.
