Gautam Gambhir, the famous Indian cricketer who is known for his spectacular cricket career celebrates his birthday today. Much like his name, Gambhir is known to be quiet, serious man who turns aggressive on the batting crease. He is one of the openers on whom Indian cricket team has always relied on, whenever he is in the game.

Personal Life

Born on 14th October 1981, Gambhir hails from New Delhi. A rare fact about the cricketer is that he was adopted by his grandparents 18 days after his birth. Since then, he has always lived with them. His maternal uncle is his mentor and he still calls him up to seek advice before important matches. In the year 2011, he got married to Natasha Jain in a private ceremony attended by many high profile personalities.

Gambhir got selected in the National Cricket Academy in the year 2000 in Bangalore. His two successive double centuries in 2002 helped him gain the opener’s slot in all three cricket formats. His maiden test century was in 2004 after which he made his maiden ODI century against Sri Lanka in 2005, where he scored 103 off 97 balls.

Gambhir performed exceptionally well in the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, ending up to be India’s top run scorer with 227 at an average of 37.38. He also scored three half-centuries including 75 off 54 balls in the final against Pakistan.

•He is the first Indian batsman to score five-hundreds in five consecutive test matches.
