Goa safest state for women, says Gender Vulnerability Index

For women, safety is the biggest concern. In India, Goa is considered to be the safest state for women. Other safe states are Kerala, Mizoram, Sikkim and Manipur. The list of unsafe states has Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. National Capital Delhi also adds to the list of unsafe and most vulnerable place for women and girls. Let’s know more about it.

A report on the first-ever gender vulnerability index (GVI) revealed this data. The report was prepared by Plan India and released by the women and child development ministry. This report is prepared with the aim to identify the issues faced by the women. Four parameters have been used to judge it.

Know the index of the states
With a GVI, Goa tops the list of 0.656. Goa also ranks first in protection, fifth in education, sixth in health and survival, and eighth in poverty. Kerala is on second position in the index with a GVI of 0.634.

Talking about Bihar, it is on the bottom. It has a GVI of 0.410. In Bihar, women and girls being the most vulnerable, less healthy and poorer among the 30 states. Education is also ranked among the lowest, and protection is unsatisfactory.

National capital Delhi ranks at 28. The poor track record in education and protection get it score of 0.436 in GVI. At 27 ranks, Jharkhand stands with GVI of 0.450 while Uttar Pradesh trails at 29 with GVI of 0.434.

This index shows the alarming situation for women safety in various states of India. The myth of Goa being unsafe for women is now broken while the states where women and girls are vulnerable should work on their weak areas to make it a better place for women.
