Google dedicates a doodle to sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar on his 96th Birth Anniversary

Today, 7th April 2016, happens to be the birth anniversary of the noted sitar maestro, Pandit Ravi Shankar.

Google, the internet search giant which is known for making wonderful doodles on several occasions has once again impressed all with its tribute to the sitar maestro. Google has come up with its trademark doodle dedicated to the Indian musician.

His birth name was Robindro Shaunkor Chowdhary and was born in 1920. He is celebrated as one of the finest musicians in the history of Indian Music. He was the best known supporter and promoter of the Indian classical music.

He never followed anyone’s path in his career. He always choose the less travelled path and thus he made his style of performing very distinctive than his contemporaries. Though his style was a influenced from Carnatic Music but he always pulled it off in a way of his own. He was such a fine artist and is always remembered whenever there are talks of musical instruments (especially sitar), classical music or Indian musicians.

Initially in his musical career he began with solo alap, jor and jhala. Later he moved on to serious and slow dhrupad genre. The artist usually used to end his musical performances with a light-classical thumri genre.

He died on 12th December 2012 leaving the nation in grief and today on the occasion of his birth anniversary, the Indian remember the great artists and pray that his soul rest in peace.
