She was the 12th President of India from 2007 to 2012. She is the only women President of India. She is Pratibha Devisingh Patil. People better know her as Pratibha Patil. It’s her birthday today. Born 19 December 1934, she is member of the Indian National Congress. Talking about her education, she pursued her education from Maharashtra which is her native land too. She is a lawyer by profession and worked for improving challenges faced by Indian women.
Pratibha Devisingh Patil was married to Devisingh Ransingh Shekhawat on 7 July 1965. The couple has a daughter and a son. She started her political career at age of 27. Talking about presidency tenure, she had faced many controversies but she overcame every challenge.
In the voting process for the President of India, Pratibha Patil garnered nearly two-thirds of the votes and took office as India’s first woman president on July 25, 2007.
She has also set up Shram Sadhana Trust. This trust runs hostels for working women in New Delhi, Mumbai and Pune.
Rajasthan connection
She also has connection with Rajasthan. She, in fact, served as the Governor of Rajasthan from 2004 to 2007. She was the 24th Governor of Rajasthan.
