School children to take ‘New India’ pledge on Independence day

For the first time in the history of India, Indian children studying in schools will get the first-hand experience of administering an oath at school campuses.

This oath will revolve around flushing out the five problems identified by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These are namely: Poverty, corruption, terrorism, communalism, and casteism

The students will administer the oath for ‘Sankalp se Siddhi’ pledge for New India Movement 2017-2022, which focuses on getting India rid of the five major challenges listed above. Schools and institutions of higher education spread across India.

Human Resources and Development (HRD) minister Prakash Javadekar to administer the oath for ‘Sankalp se Siddhi Pledge for New India Movement 2017-2022’, aiming to rid India of the five major challenges it is currently facing.

This step will spew dedication, commitment, and Courage amidst the Indian students to strive harder for their country and its people.

What’s the Oath narrative?

Here is the recital which will be used by all students. The recital was narrated by PM Modi and it reads as follows:

“Let us together pledge for a New India. In 1942, our freedom fighters took a pledge of ‘Quit India’ and in 1947 India achieved independence. Let us together pledge that by 2022 we build a New India. Let us together pledge towards a clean India. Let us together pledge towards a poverty free India. Let us together pledge towards a corruption free India. Let us together pledge towards a terrorism free India. Let us together pledge towards a communalism free India. Let us together pledge towards a casteism free India. Together let us strive wholeheartedly to accomplish this pledge for a New India,” reads the oath issued the ministry.

The initiative will instill the feeling of nationalism and patriotism in the minds of students.

To whom has the guidelines been issued?

The guidelines have been issued to education secretaries of all Indian states and Union Territories, NCERT, CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan along with other educational institutions.

“Students will have to take a pledge near the memorials of freedom fighters, who gave their lives to keep the movement of independence alive,” Union minister Prakash Javadekar said.

“It is unfortunate that West Bengal has decided to not comply with the circular issued by MHRD. The school education department has further decided to not celebrate the program in this manner,” the minister added.
