India rejects Google Street View plan over security concerns

Google, the search giant engine has lately approached India with a plan to collect images of it’s streets in different states and cities for a street view service in the country. But India has discarded all the Google plans after some objections from the security agencies saying that leak of such images can be beneficial to the terrorists and harmful for the country.

Officials said that there were few concerns of the security agencies that the nation would have to compromise of country’s and it’s people’s security with this street view service.

The Google plan said that they require images of street to provide the viewers a 360 view of the streets, hills, rivers and various tourist spots of the country. This Google Street View Service has also caused concerns in various other countries of the world. Press Trust of India (PTI) informed that the India’s Ministry had rejected the Google’s plan.

A senior government official said, “The main concern was security of sensitive defence installations. The defence ministry said it was not possible to monitor the service once it was launched and it would be detrimental to national security.”

Whereas on the other hand, a spokesperson from Google said that they as far has not received any confirmation from the government.
