According to union health ministry statistics revised on 5 April 2023, India has recorded 4,435 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the current number to 21,091. This increase of 4,435 new Covid instances in India is the greatest in 163 days. On September 25 of last year, a total of 4,777 instances were reported.

The everyday happiness rate was 3.38 percent, with a weekly positivity rate of 2.79 percent.

With the new instances, India’s COVID-19 total has risen to 4.47 billion. (4,47,33,719). The mortality toll rose to 5,30,916 with 15 deaths, according to statistics updated at 8 a.m. Maharashtra reported four fatalities; Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Puducherry, and Rajasthan each reported one fatality.

Four fatalities were recorded in Maharashtra, one each in Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Puducherry, and Rajasthan, and four were reconciled by Kerala.

The number of individuals who have recovered from the illness has risen to 4,41,79,712, with a 1.19 percent case fatality rate.

In terms of vaccination coverage, 220.66 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been given so far as part of the national vaccination campaign.

A leading epidemiologist has warned that coronavirus cases in India are tripling every 4-5 days, suggesting that the epidemic is still far from over, despite the resumption of near-normalcy in society and the economy.

According to the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium, Omicron subvariant XBB.1.16 is the most common variant in India, accounting for 60% of cases.

In response, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that the Omicron sub-variant that is circulating in the nation has not resulted in a rise in hospitalisations and that there is no cause for concern.

The Union Health Ministry has warned people to be careful in the aftermath of an increase in Covid-19 cases. The warning also cautioned against ignoring Covid-19 signs because the current weather conditions can aid in the virus’s spread.

The number of Covid instances in Maharashtra has increased 186% in the last 24 hours, according to the state. During this period, the state reported 711 new instances of the virus and 4 fatalities.
