J&K on map: India says Pakistan has no locus standi and rejects objections

Pakistan has no locus standi

After Islamabad expressed its serious concern over the Jammu and Kashmir map to the United Nations, India and Pakistan recently on Tuesday argued over the draft Geospatial Information Regulation Bill. Accusing the neighbouring state, India said that Pakistan has no locus standi as the Jammu and Kashmir issue is an internal legislative matter.

Kiren Rijiju, the Minister of state for Home Affairs said, “We do not take cognisance of Pakistan’s objection to the draft Bill. We will take suggestions and views of citizens, experts and various stakeholders before finalising it. But it is the duty of the government to see that India’s map is depicted properly.”

The capital New Delhi has been accused of violating international laws and now Islamabad asked the United Nations to urge New Delhi to stop doing such acts. Continuing this, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry said, “Pakistan has expressed serious concern to the United Nations Secretary General and the President of the UN Security Council, through letters by our Permanent Representative in New York, with regard to the Indian government’s efforts to introduce a controversial ‘Geospatial Information Regulation Bill’ in Indian Parliament.”

Pakistan has accused the country of allegedly using the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir in its map which is against the international laws. After Pakistan’s statement over India (New Delhi) violating the rules, Vikas Swarup, the spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs said, “India firmly rejects Pakistan’s repeated and increasing attempts to impose on the international community matters that India has always been open to address bilaterally with it. The proposed Bill is an entirely internal legislative matter of India, since the whole of the state of J&K is an integral part of India. Pakistan or any other party has no locus standi in the matter.”

As per the draft bill, any entity showing a wrong depiction of Indian man now onwards will have to bear a maximum jail sentence of upto 7 years with a fine of Rs 100 crore.
