The first T20 match of the series played between India and South Africa on Sunday put forth an exceptional performance by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan. However, another player of the Indian squad went almost unnoticed with his record-breaking performance. Apparently, MS Dhoni, who recently made a record of 400 dismissals by an Indian wicketkeeper, has added another feather to his cap.

During the first T20 match against the Proteas, Dhoni took a catch to dismiss Hendricks off Bhuvaneshwar and created a new T20 World record of taking most catches. The former skipper has now beaten Kumar Sangakkara’s record by taking his 134th catch in 275 T20s. Previously, the record was held by Sangakkara for taking 133 catches in 254 T20s.

Furthermore, with 77 dismissals, 48 catches and 29 stumpings in his name, Dhoni also holds the most dismissals in T20I matches. Besides, his 48 catches in 87 T20Is is also a world record. Overall, the cricketer has the second most dismissals (204) in T20s. The first spot on the chart is dedicated to Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal who has 207 dismissals in his name in 203 innings.

The Indian team has shown an impressive performance throughout the tour so far. Despite losing the Test Series by 1-2, the team broke the 26-year long dry spell by winning the ODI series in South Africa against the Proteas. The T20I series will have 2 more matches on 21st and 24th February at Centurion and Cape Town, respectively. Hopes and expectations are high from the Indian squad, especially from Captain Virat Kohli who has displayed an amazing performance throughout the tour.
