Indian boxers Manoj Kumar, Vikas Krishan, and Shiva Thapa would have been disqualified from Rio Olympics 2016 Games for their indiscipline. Rio Olympic 2016 Game which is currently going on in Brazils Rio de Janeiro is one most popular event globally. The trio of Indian boxers simply forgot to print ‘INDIA’ at the back of their jerseys and kits which became enough reason for the Olympic authorities to disqualify them. The punishment might seem extreme but the fault committed by these boxers is also not little. Going out on sports number one global platform to represent your country without its name written anywhere is inexcusable.

It is a statutory prerequisite to have the name of the athlete’s country printed on the back of their respective jerseys. It is applicable to mention here that if the International Boxing body, decides to disqualify the Indian boxers then India’s hopes of winning in the sport, will be at risk. But thankfully, the careless trio were let go with a warning from International Boxing Body’s side and no disqualification will take place.

Boxer Shiva Thapa has a bout game at 11am (Brazilian time), but he has been told not to participate if he shows up wearing his jersey sans India printed on its back. Shiva will be representing India in the men’s Bantamweight (56 kg) category. This was a lesson which was learnt after Manoj Kumar showed up at his competition, wearing his jersey with no India written on its back. To this the International Boxing Body strictly stated that “No Indian boxer will be allowed after this” in unequivocal terms.

Now all the boxers have only 10 hours to get the name ‘INDIA’ printed on their jerseys. Time may be less but these sports persons have to manage this task.

The last boxer of this trio, Thapa will be soon in action today during his competition with Robeisy Ramirez Carrazana of Cuba. Meanwhile, 29-year-old Manoj Kumar who brilliantly defeated Lithuania’s Evaldas Petrauskas , a 2012 London Olympic bronze medalist by 2-1 in the men’s light welter 64 kg category, has marched forward to the next round. Kumar has already won first two rounds. He even got hurt in the second event but won still. It was clear that Manoj’s competitor, Evaldas Petrauskas forced him to go into a defensive mode, but he with quick analysis bounced back and secured 10 points from all the three judges.
