Indian Shooter Ankur Mittal wins Gold at World Championship


Indian Shooter Ankur Mittal made a great achievement in his career by winning men’s double trap gold medal in the ISSF World Championship. In the event, Ankur won by defeating Chinese Yiyang Yang and Slovakia’s Hubert Andrzej Olejnik. Hubert Andrzej Olejnik settled with bronze while Yiyang Yang won silver. Know more.

In a shoot-off, Mittal shot 140 out of 150 to clinch Gold. The 26-year-old overcame the Chinese 4-3 to emerge triumphant. At the event, Slovakian got eliminated after missing the second shot while Yiyang missed the fourth shot. Indian shooter hit on all the four shots to finish first.

In the team event, Ankur Mittal, Mohd Asab and Shardul Vihan won bronze with a score of 409. In this, Italy won gold with a score of 411 and China made to silver with score of 410.

Considering the tally after the seventh day of competition, India have 20 medals — seven gold, seven silver and six bronze. This made India to reach at second position.

Born on 30th March, 1992, Ankur Mittal belongs to Haryana. At World Championships, Ankur Mittal is the second Indian to clinch gold in a shotgun event. He is son of former double trap shooter Ashok Mittal. After this Gold, he made to the list of Indian shooters winning Gold at World Championships. The previous ones are Abhinav Bindra, Sandhu, Tejaswini Sawant and Om Mitharval. Talking about his previous achievements, he qualified the final of Men’s Double trap competition at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and silver medal at 2017 World Championships.
