India’s Lakshmi Puri among 6 Diplomats felicitated with ‘Power of One Award’ at UN

Six diplomats including India’s Lakshmi Puri, have been felicitated with the inaugural Diwali “Power of One” Award at UN headquarters on Monday. The award was presented to the diplomats for their contribution to help form a “perfect, peaceful, and secure world.”
It’s a great honor that is given to those who selflessly work towards building a peaceful and secure world. The receivers of the award include Indian head of UN Women Lakshmi Puri and five other diplomats.
These are outgoing British Ambassador to UN Mathew Rycroft, former Permanent Representative of Egypt to the UN Maged Abdelaziz, Lebanese Ambassador to the UN Nawaf Salam, and former Permanent UN Representatives of Moldovo and Ukraine namely Ion Botnaru and Yuriy Sergeyev, respectively.

The occasion was the first anniversary of the issue of forever Diwali stamp by US Postal Services. New-York based Ranju Batra is credited with an effort for seven years for the release of these Diwali Stamps through peaceful and respectful means.
Reportedly, the event was co-organised by the Permanent Missions of Belarus, Georgia, and India while the sponsorship was provided by 2 dozen countries including Britain, US, France, Thailand, Spain, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, and Algeria. The Diwali Foundation USA was established as an NGO to promote a peaceful and consensus-based process so as to achieve the societal “Good”.
Valentin Rybakov, Permanent Representative of Belarus to UN, was present on the occasion and said that the 6 awardees have illuminated a way towards making a perfect, peaceful, and secure world.
