Early Life of Mr. Amit Shah:

Born in October 1964, Shah comes from an affluent Gujarati family in Mumbai. He stayed in Maansa, Gujarat until the age of 16 to complete his school education. Later, he shifted to Ahmedabad and completed his graduation in Bio-Chemistry. He had developed an interest in politics since his teenage and was really fond of businessmen.

Mr. Amit Shah and his connection with RSS:

Influenced by the works of Rashtriya Sevak Sangh (RSS), he became an active member of the Sangh and from thereon his life changed forever. After working for the students’ wing of the RSS for four years, BJP had emerged as the political arm of RSS and by 1984-85 Amit Shah had joined BJP as well.

Followed by his first assignment as a poll agent at Ahmedabad’s Narayanpura ward, he attained the secretaryship of the ward. These accomplishments led him to positions like National Treasurer of BJYM, State Secretary, and State Vice President of Gujarat BJP.

Young Face of Politics:

Mr. Amit Shah did some exemplary work by expanding the base of the young political party and handled mob mobilization of people quite well. It was during this time that the Ram Janambhoomi Movement and EktaYatra garnered a huge support in BJP’s favor.

After these successful ventures, Shah handled the election campaign for Shri. L.K. Advani in 1989 Lok Sabha bypolls and served as the election in-charge for former Prime Minister Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Key Achievements of Mr. Amit Shah:

  • Breaking the stranglehold of Congress over Gujarat’s Cooperative Movement rendered great electoral strength. In 1998, when a majority of the cooperative institutions were under Congress’ control, Amit Shah led to BJP’s victories in elections for cooperative banks, milk dairies, agricultural committees, etc.
  • Under Shah’s Chairmanship, the Ahmedabad Cooperative Bank turned profitable in just one year and declared a dividend for the first time in a decade.
  • He became the national convener of BJP’s cooperative committee in 2001 and co-organizer of the party’s Gaurav Yatra in 2002.
  • After winning the seat from the Sarkhej Community, three times in a row, his popularity never ceased to exist. He was even appointed with key ministries of Home, Transport, Parliamentary affairs, law, and Prohibition.
  • In the year 2012, he won the Narayanpura assembly elections, the fifth time in a row by more than 60,000 votes. Recognizing his electoral talent, BJP appointed him as the General Secretary ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
  • Along with BJP’s PM candidate Mr. Modi, Shah spent the whole year energizing party workers and visiting every nook and corner of Uttar Pradesh to push the party’s development agenda. In a historical win, BJP was able to fetch 73 out of 80 seats in the state.
  • In 2014, Mr. Amit Shah was made the National President of BJP and started spreading party’s ideology. His efforts bore fruits when BJP became the world’s largest political party with more than 10 Crore members.
