IRCTC confirms the website is not hacked though an enquiry for data theft is being conducted

There were news of the largest e-commerce website of India, the IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) being hacked and the fear was of the loss of personal information of the lakhs and crores of people who use the website for ticketing and other purposes. Maharashtra Cyber Cell was the first to inform this to the website.

A senior officer from IRCTC then said, “The data is a valuable asset and can be sold to corporations who may use it for targeting potential consumers. Somebody can create forged documents on the basis of the stolen data.”

We,, but denying all the news/rumours IRCTC took it to twitter to say that the website has not been hacked though the Maharashtra government has been alerted. IRCTC tweeted, “IRCTC website has not been hacked. Enquiry is being conducted regarding alleged data theft.”

Sandip Dutta, the PRO for IRCTC said clarifying the doubts said, “There has been no hacking attempt on the site. A high-level committee has been formed to probe the matter.” He added, “We have requested the cyber cell to give us details of the so-called data theft.”
